Sometimes the experiences we have in life leave us stressed frustrated or isolated. It's times like these it can really help to lay out issues that are on your heart in a  caring, non-judgemental space...

About counselling....

Our life stories and relationships impact upon our experience of life and the way we feel about ourself and others.  Because of this we can feel angry, sad, or fearful and it can be challenging to find a genuine solution to it all on our own. Sometimes history seems to repeat itself and it's hard to figure out why.  Past trauma has a habit of making its impact felt in surprising ways in the present. Or sometimes life becomes an ordeal where we find ourselves having little confidence or feeling like life has no point.

It takes talking through with someone who is caring, impartial and insightful.

Working collaboratively to move forward ...

Whatever it is you're dealing with I provide a safe, encouraging and supportive space to work through it and move forward.  I am experienced at taking a collaborative approach using strategies and frameworks appropriate to the issues at hand. I am trained in Narrative & Person Centred Therapies, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and guided by recent research in neuroscience.

My name is Anita Wong and I am an experienced qualified counsellor who sees people with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, self esteem, identity, sexual and other trauma, relationships, grief and spirituality.  I see clients in Mt Eden and Glen Eden and I cater to all ages from adolescence onwards. I have an integrated narrative and person-centred approach and I draw on DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) neuroscience, mindfulness and an appreciation of the connection between mind, body & spirit.

Like all professional counsellors my work is overseen by a qualified supervisor.  My counselling practice is informed by the ethical standards and professional guidelines of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

In the initial session we can discuss how the counselling process works, and identify what you want to get out of counselling.   Generally you should notice  progress in whatever purpose we have set together within 3-5 sessions. Some people may benefit from longer term counselling, depending on the issues being faced.  I welcome your honest feedback  as this frequently benefits the counselling process itself.

Testimonials

I have now realised that I don’t have to constantly question myself – I can just be accepting of myself.  I have also decided that although other people are factors, I can set my own path.

I am now able to take a positive attitude going into a situation rather than worrying people won’t like me
