Sometimes the experiences we have in life leave us struggling day to day or have us feeling as if we are isolated and not part of things.  It's times like these it can really help to lay out the issues that are on your heart in a  caring, non-judgemental space...

About counselling....

Counselling is for anyone who is finding life difficult, stressful or painful. Our life stories and relationships can impact upon our experience of life and ourself.  Because of this we might feel anxious or depressed or our emotional life becomes particularly painful.  Sometimes relationships or grief become a daily challenge. Past trauma has a habit of making its impact felt in surprising ways in the present. Or sometimes life becomes an ordeal when we find ourselves having little confidence or feeling like life has no point.

Working collaboratively to move forward with hope...

Whatever it is you're dealing with I provide a safe, encouraging and supportive space to express it.  I am experienced at taking a collaborative approach and can offer various strategies and frameworks (depending upon the issues) to identify a new way forward.

My name is Anita Wong and I am an experienced qualified counsellor who sees people with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, self esteem, identity, relational trauma, relationships, emotional neglect, grief and spirituality.  I see clients in Mt Eden and Glen Eden and I cater to all ages from adolescence onwards. I have an integrated narrative and person-centred approach and I draw on DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) neuroscience, mindfulness and an appreciation of the connection between mind, body & spirit.

Like all professional counsellors my work is overseen by a qualified supervisor.  My counselling practice is informed by the ethical standards and professional guidelines of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.

In the initial session we can discuss how the counselling process works, and identify what you want to get out of counselling.   Generally you should notice  progress in whatever purpose we have set together within 3-5 sessions. Some people may benefit from longer term counselling, depending on the issues being faced.  I welcome your honest feedback  as this frequently benefits the counselling process itself.

Counselling sessions are 50-60min and cost $100.

WINZ or MSD may provide funding for counselling for those on a low income.

Please email or call me to ask about this.

Testimonials

I have now realised that I don’t have to constantly question myself – I can just be accepting of myself.  I have also decided that although other people are factors, I can set my own path.

I am now able to take a positive attitude going into a situation rather than worrying people won’t like me

Have you ever stopped to think about why circumstances and situations with others can affect some of us so deeply (and painfully) yet other people seem to skip through life relatively unscathed and apparently have countless wonderful things constantly happen to them?...

It is amazing to think about the complexity of the human body and its capability to give us warning signs that something is wrong.  Our body sends us pain messages in many different shapes and forms.  Often this feels very inconvenient and we might choose to avoid them...

Emotions are a natural part of being human.  Taking notice of feelings and our relationship to them can help us to avoid becoming swamped by them.  Useful steps can be: to take a step back, notice and observe them.  Don't push it away or try to get rid of it.  Don't h...
