Nau mai, haere mai

My name is Anita, I am an NZAC registered counsellor practising in Mt Eden, Auckland, and also available online. I prioritise offering a safe space to talk that is respectful, supportive and healing centred.

I have significant experience in the following areas;

Making sense of the factors in society and relationships past and present that contribute to anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, painful and overwhelming emotions, self doubt and loss of purpose. I offer support to those who have experienced sexual abuse, historic and intergenerational trauma, complex grief issues and spirituality. I offer affirming support for those with ADHD, neurodiversity and with LGBTQI+ issues.  I have an affinity for those who have been impacted by cultural marginalisation and inequity. I also have experience with business management and workplace issues.

I can offer support to:

  • focus on your reasons for the korero

  • Identify your strengths and priorities

  • collaborate to find the resources and directions that are helpful to you

  • Reduce stress, anxiety and overwhelm

  • Improve relationships & personal boundaries

  • Strengthen your identity and purpose

  • Enhance your sense of wellbeing

Nau mai, haere mai,

I offer a supportive space to express your concerns.  Together we can explore the issues, make sense of what has happened and find ways that work for you to move forward.

Recent research confirms that Western therapy frameworks are often inappropriate for those impacted by colonisation. If you think your whanau and whakapapa have been affected by this somewhere in the past or present, there may be other possible pathways including Kaupapa Maori organisations that offer a better process. I am happy to be a support to collaborate and think this possibility through.  I offer a 30min korero that is respectful of your priorities, free of charge, to consider the options for you and your whanau.

I am trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), ACT, CBT and Narrative Therapy. I have completed introductory training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).  My work is influenced by both Western psychological and indigenous socioecological understandings of trauma and human development.

My practice is affirming of LGBTQI+ identities and neurodiversity.

I can support you to access WINZ funding if you are on a low income. I also offer EAP funded sessions (through Clearhead).

I see young people (17 years+) through to the not so young.

I have worked in the non-profit sector and I am also experienced in the dynamics of business and workplace environments.
My practice is informed by the ethical standards and professional guidelines of

the New Zealand Association of Counsellors  (NZAC).

Testimonials

Anita is so accepting and easy to talk to. She has helped me to see things from a new perspective and given me really practical tools for managing things that I'd been struggling with. Going to see her was always a highlight of my week!

I am now able to take a positive attitude going into a situation rather than worrying people won’t like me

I have now realised that I don’t have to constantly question myself – I can just be accepting of myself.  I have also decided that although other people are factors, I can set my own path.
