  • Reduced anxiety,

  • Healthier relationships & personal boundaries

  • Increased self confidence

  • Enhanced sense of wellbeing

Kia ora, my name is Anita Wong, I'm an experienced registered counsellor practising in Mt Eden, Auckland  and online.

I offer individual counselling in a safe supportive space to express your concerns.  Together we can explore the issues, make sense of what is happening and find new ways to move forward.  I take an approach that feels appropriate to your individual needs and preferences and to the issues at hand. I am trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), (Focussed) ACT, Narrative and Person-Centred Therapies. My work is underpinned by an understanding of our human developmental needs, attachment styles, and the impact of relational trauma on our nervous system, psychological and physical wellbeing, and our ways of interacting with others.

I have experience with a broad range of issues including anxiety, trauma, emotional neglect, sexual abuse, relationship issues, grief, eco-anxiety, depression and spirituality.

My practice is LGBTQ+ and diversity friendly.

I am also able to offer brief interventions and EAP work (through Clearhead).

I see young people (17years+) through to the not so young.

I have worked in the non-profit sector and I am also experienced in the dynamics of business and workplace environments.

With longstanding issues I often find that a developmental / trauma informed approach works best - The question is not so much "what's wrong with you" but "what has happened ?" Family dynamics and events in our early life tend to shape our interactions and core beliefs in certain ways and then influence the way we see ourselves and experience others as we continue on through life - unless there is therapeutic work to create lasting change.

Your wellbeing and confidentiality are important to me, as are your preferences and sense of agency / empowerment within the therapeutic process.
My practice is informed by the ethical standards and professional guidelines of

the New Zealand Association of Counsellors  (MNZAC).

Anita is so accepting and easy to talk to. She has helped me to see things from a new perspective and given me really practical tools for managing things that I'd been struggling with. Going to see her was always a highlight of my week!

I am now able to take a positive attitude going into a situation rather than worrying people won’t like me

I have now realised that I don’t have to constantly question myself – I can just be accepting of myself.  I have also decided that although other people are factors, I can set my own path.
