Emotions are a natural part of being human. Taking notice of feelings and our relationship to them can help us to avoid becoming swamped by them. Useful steps can be: to take a step back, notice and observe them. Don't push it away or try to get rid of it. Don't hold onto it or "fall into" it either. You don't have to take harsh action upon it; just name the feeling and accept it as part of you.
